I attended the Creative Architects 2017 event in Abuja on the 10th of August and as expected, I had an amazing time; inspirational talks, wowing exhibitions and networking.
It was a cocktail of the young, the not-so-young and the experienced in the building industry and for me, a most welcomed escape. You see, I’ve been on maternity leave for the past three months and I was craving for conversations that went beyond diapers, feeding time and Disney junior.
Most of the speeches presented drummed on excelling through teamwork and collaboration. Personally, that is my motto. I believe in collective strengths conquering individual weaknesses. No matter how good you are, you can’t be the best at everything. We heard from experienced architects, interior designers, real estate developers, a motivational speaker and business men and women. I believe everyone took something with them when they left from that event, be it a new idea, inspiration, a new business contact or a stronger collaboration with an existing one. I for one, left with all of the above.
The winners of this years’ competition titled “Give them home” had amazing designs. More impressive is the use of our indigenous materials for the designs. One design in particular blew my mind. The submission was an energy efficient camp built with bamboo. It was beautiful. Designs like this remind me that we have so many talents yet untapped and competitions like these are one of many ways we can fish out these treasures.
It is my hope that we get to organize more of these competitions and events in the future. I commend the organisers, Chronos-Studeos and all other participants for a wonderful job. I also believe that next year the turnout will make us need a bigger hall because we can, we will and we must.
“Stay curious, stay inspired”.
